Their fire of living was burning, so warmly low That in their solemn nights they barely saw its rays, And in the joy of perfect-placid days

Nothing but smoking embers deadly slow. Vainly, for joyful delight, they sought to throw New pleasures in the coals to make it blaze: In life's tranquil air and flourishing ways

They missed their youthful warmth of long ago. But in the night, a night of screaming alarms, Pungent with pain and black with smog of fears That crowd families trembling to each other's arms -- Across a gulf of darkness and children’s tears, Into life's calm the winds of war came, And fanned the fire of hate to radiant flame.

One thought lies close in her heart gnawed through With hunger; a potato, perchance a turnip in a garbage can, Potato chip crumbs in an empty crumpled bag, A waxed butter wrapper to lick, or partial jar of Coffeemate For the baby to lick out of her hand.

Homeless mother, the tension of her heartstrings would sever The knot where yesterday worries tomorrow: Of all things in the world that God smiles on, it is the poor, but never sorrow. Help if you can…you can.

Poppies around the meadow A Bluebird in the Pine, And then walks sorrow over the ridge— And what does sorrow care For the Bluebird, the pine Or the poppies there?

*********************************

Sorrow like an endless drumming Beats upon my heart. Children twist and scream in pain,— Someone will steal more with ease; This has neither solution or answer, Neither stop nor start, without people Rising up together with one pleading heart. Children sold to highest bidder.

HOW; Customer Service Employees Can Get Involved This Holiday Season
The Hub pages community is a place where loving people can share their creativity and voice through the written word, art, and in poetry. It can also be a platform to unite for a good cause. Two members (and good friends of mine); Bill Holland and Joseph De Cross have come together this week asking us to support their campaign; (H.O.W.) “Humanity One World”, They are asking of us just to write “one” piece in dedication “to helping the less-fortunate in this world, bringing us all closer, and loving one another.”
I did not hesitate! I decided to come on board by writing about humanity as a representative for the customer service
industry, a member since 1989. I decided to use my capabilities as a poet to help the cause in my acrostic poem as follows:

Hand out your heart to the community this year
Unite the patrons with holiday cheer
Make them feel like guests in your home
Allow them the freedom to breathe
Notice them without a judgmental tone
Invest your soul and converse with ease
They are part of humanity like you, one world
Yearning to believe
